memoryboxes | 9th Memory [Action/Voice]

[After a very tiring last few weeks—between learning about things she's forgotten and turning into things she could never willingly forget—Sayo found herself resting comfortably in Luceti. The experiment, while straining for some, wasn't so bad. She'd gotten to record an image of her son's face while she was stuck in his body... and now she can proudly put the picture on a table in her living room.

Even with her in his body, it was still so him. Did they really share the way they emoted that well? It's something to laugh about.

She's also been working on making something beyond the traditional Japanese outfit. Because honestly? She wanted to try something new—even if it meant her knowledge of clothes-making was in jeopardy, she didn't mind it. She'd relearn it later, hmm?

So she's been making blankets and dropping them off at the clothes store. Ones that are moreso her world's style, some that are patterned unlike anything she's used to (—and what interesting ways of making blankets! Quilts!). She can't help but ask, as she sits contently to watch people come and go:]

What type of hobbies do you enjoy doing? And has this place made you form any new ones?

[After that, she'll leave, and uncharacteristically veer off her usual path toward the inner forest.

She's been hearing (repeatedly, forgetting often, relearning often...) that there are spirits here that can teach people things. She's not sure which to listen to first, but she knows she wants to try. Try... and see if it's something her mind will keep intact. Perhaps the water one... or the wind one... Ah, those would be good! They would be helpful to protect oneself without hurting the other person fighting, right?

When she feels she's far out enough, she speaks hesitantly—]

Hello...? Is... is this how I speak with you...?

[Granted, you may find her lost in the forest. Which way was back again... hmmm... :|a]

To be honest, I don't know . . . My armor was in the clothing store. It'd be a good idea if someone were to provide everyone with their own, though.

Yes! Though, I guess armor can be difficult to wear during the summers...?

They tend to make you feel stuffy in hot weather. However, that's no excuse - for those who choose to wear it, the heat is one obstacle they must overcome.

That's true... I suppose we all have to learn how to make ourselves stronger, don't we?

[Though she personally feels everyone else is just so strong compared to her...]

We do. Not everyone grows the same way; that's why it's important to learn.

[ Aw, Sayo. She's got her strengths! ]

I suppose I should learn something as well... I haven't the faintest clue how to defend myself, and I've never really invested in anything for it...

I'm sure there are people here willing to teach you self-defense, if that's what you're interested in.

W-well, I don't want to hurt people. I just... want to be able to keep them away. Long enough for me to get away, I guess...

[ Hmm. ] Some kind of distraction technique, then?

Ah! Yes, that sounds exactly like what I'd like! It's one of the reasons I've been working on speaking to the wind spirit... I thought, if anything can teach me to defend myself without hurting someone, it would be wind!

Wind . . . I can see how that'd work. It sounds like you've already got everything worked out.

Do you really think so...? I've been trying to be a little more independent... though I'm a little worried I won't be able to remember how to use the wind, once I finally do learn it...

Why not? It's something I think would stick once you learn it.

[Oh. Right.]

Oh! It's because sometimes I tend to lose memories of things if I don't think of them often enough.

. . . Short-term memory?

[ It sounds kind of severe if the woman has to point it out. ]

Well, it's a little strange—all right, really strange. But a little while back, a special type of creature crawled into my head and has been eating up my memories...

[Really now, she doesn't find it that crazy, nowadays. Luceti has some really crazy stuff in it, too, so that certainly helps her feel better about her oddities.]

[ Huh? She's shocked by the explanation, to say the least, but she regains her bearings before she responds. ]

A memory-eating creature . . . I've never heard of such a thing.

In my world, there as uncommon as I thought they'd be... I got it...

[A pause.]

Well, actually, I'm not sure when I was afflicted. But I know it was under a tree. It slept in the shadows.

I see. [ That's really too bad. Sylvia feels bad, even if Sayo's just stating fact. ]

My condolences. It must be rough.

No need for that kind of talk! I'm just fine—something like this isn't about to stop me from enjoying myself, after all! [except it does, sometimes, but she won't acknowledge those days]

My name's Sayo, by the way. What's your name?

[ There's a low hum from her end. Good answer, Sayo. Sylvia's already starting to respect her more. ]

My name is Sylvia. It's good to talk to you.

And it's good to talk to you as well!

You seem like you know a lot about fighting, Sylvia-san. Is it like that for most in your world?

It may sound like it, but there's still a lot for me to learn.

As for my world . . . well, it doesn't apply to everyone. The people there, including myself, are . . . ordinary.

Ordinary? [she laughs] Then I must be the blandest sort of person, compared!

I don't think so. You seem strong on the inside.
